Trap is a musical subgenre of hip hop, born in the United States. It developed between the late 90s and early 2000s.
This musical genre spoke of trafficking and addiction to drugs and alcohol: initially it was not a real genre, the term indicated a place (the trap house). Later it began to be used to indicate the music related to that context. The trap houses were abandoned apartments in Atlanta where narcotics were peddled, also the word trapping in slang means “peddling”.
